This is in an attempt to address complex healthcare issues through effective and sustainable interventions by changing sound evidence into best practices. Innovative care models can potentially improve health outcomes, transform clinical care practices, and minimize health system costs (Scarbrough et al., 2021). This is done through evidence-based tools and strategies through collaborative efforts by various stakeholders. This is achieved through resourceful and sustainable approaches.

Nurse leaders are integral to the implementation of innovative care models. This is because they are involved in day-to-day direct clinical practices and thus are competent policymakers and decision-makers on clinical matters. Their roles and responsibilities include leadership for example by being a team leader, education and training of nursing staff and all the other stakeholders involved, collaboration in the implementation of innovative best practices, constant communication and feedback throughout the implementation process,  and development and tailoring of the best practices through action plans and strategies (ten Ham-Baloyi, 2022). Nurse leaders are thus tasked with gaining the necessary competence and skills to integrate these roles in the implementation of best innovative practices.

The implementation of innovative care models requires the engagement of various stakeholders that are affected by the intended intervention. In addition to nurses,  the other stakeholders include patients, other healthcare professionals, and policymakers among others. Collaboration of these stakeholders is pivotal in enhancing accountability, mutual respect, interdisciplinary communication, mitigation of barriers to the successful implementation of innovative initiatives, improvement in evidence-based care policies, and enhanced collective awareness and expectations for best practices (ten Ham-Baloyi, 2019). Adequate and equitable involvement of all the stakeholders dictated by clearly defined roles minimize stakeholder conflicts and misunderstandings. Collaborative efforts will also result in the effective implementation of quality innovative practices that translate to high-quality care and clinical and organizational outcomes.
